Moonstone Theatre Company's production of the musical 'Almost, Maine', directed by Doug Finlayson, at The Gaslight Theater.
Moonstone Theatre Company brings Almost, Maine to The Gaslight Theater in the Central West End, running December 10 through 20. It's the second production of their current season, directed by Doug Finlayson and cast with veteran actors.
If you've followed Moonstone for a while, you know they've had a strange run lately. Led by Producing Artistic Director Sharon Hunter, the troupe staged no productions in 2025 after a year-long hiatus. They returned to the stage at The Gaslight Theater, a 97-seat, uniquely vertical black box that also serves as the home of the St. Louis Actors' Studio. Owner William Roth signed a rental agreement with the company, and they've had to adapt their stage design to fit the room's vertical seating. Hunter chose Deceived—a 2024 adaptation of Patrick Hamilton's Gaslight—as the comeback show, citing its themes of resilience and women's empowerment.
Almost, Maine is a different kind of beast. It's been a staple since its 2004 premiere, built around a series of interconnected vignettes about love, loss, and misunderstanding, all set under the aurora borealis in a remote town in Maine. Finlayson is bringing new emotional layers to those vignettes, and the cast is made up of veteran actors rather than newcomers. The play sits within a three-show season that Hunter has loosely themed as a 'Magical Mystery Tour.'
