Musical in which two actors play two pianos, tracing the lives of two pianists from childhood lessons to professional careers.
2 Pianos 4 Hands is playing at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis this weekend, with two performances: Saturday, October 24, at 4 PM and Sunday, October 25, at 2 PM. It's a live-music show that runs on two pianos and two actors, Richard Todd Adams (Ted) and Matthew McGloin (Richard), who play two self-described piano nerds looking back on their years of lessons, recitals, and competitions. The story follows them from their childhood training toward their careers as professional musicians, and the two of them age on stage from young students into adults confronting the realities of a life in music.
Much of the show happens at the keyboards. It moves between scenes of instruction and scenes of performance, and the music they play covers a lot of ground: Bach and Beethoven sit alongside Billy Joel and Jerry Lee Lewis. The whole thing is a Pioneer Theatre Company production, staged as the company's 20th Anniversary Production with scenic design by Yoon Bae.

It's part of The Repertory Theatre's current season at the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts, where it's playing on the Mainstage. Earlier in the year, the theater staged Little Women as part of the same season. If you're around this weekend, you've got two chances to catch it: Saturday at 4 PM and Sunday at 2 PM.
