Late night club night with urban music upstairs at Medbar, featuring DJ Flash.
Urban Room is back upstairs at Medbar on Friday 16 October, part of the venue's regular run of urban nights. It's a late one, running from 10pm until 2am, so it's more of a proper night out than a quick drink.
If you've never been, here's how Medbar works. The upstairs room is dedicated to urban music, and it's the only space in Southampton that keeps that focus going late into the night. The selection pulls from Afrobeats, Dancehall, Bashment, Afro Party, Amapiano, and R&B/Hip Hop, so it's a fair bit more specific than your average club night. Downstairs, the main room does something completely different: a commercial, anything-goes party of chart hits, Latin tracks, throwbacks, and UK Garage classics. You can easily spend the night drifting between the two, depending on what you're in the mood for.
On the decks for this one is DJ Flash, who'll be steering the upstairs room through those urban sounds. The space itself doubles as an intimate setting for live music and spoken word, so it's a bit more contained than the main floor downstairs. Medbar has been around since 2013, and the upstairs urban nights run every Friday and Saturday from 10pm until late, so if you miss this one, there's always the next weekend.
