Tim Burton's Universe by Mystery Ensemble

Mystery Ensemble bring Tim Burton's Universe to Turner Sims on Saturday 31 October, a Halloween night concert that works its way through the music of Tim Burton's films. At its heart is the work of Danny Elfman, Burton's lifelong collaborator, whose scores have defined the sound of almost all his projects.

The programme draws on a long list of films: Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Batman, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It's a broad sweep of Burton's career, so you'll hear the gothic whimsy of the early years alongside the darker, more theatrical stuff. The ensemble describes it as a live theatrical experience that uses the architecture of Turner Sims to create an immersive atmosphere, rather than just a seated concert.

Mystery Ensemble is a contemporary music studio founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander. This tribute is just one part of their wider repertoire, which covers film and TV soundtracks like Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Wednesday, and The Young Pope, as well as tributes to composers like Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and Michael Jackson. The concert runs from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, an hour's worth of music. Doors open at least 30 minutes before, and late entry may not be permitted, so it's worth getting there a bit early. Tickets start at £22, with regular tickets listed at £22, £27, and £30. The show is recommended for ages 6 and over.
