The Vibe Lounge | Jazz

The Vibe Collective are taking over the foyer at Turner Sims on Thursday 26 November for another edition of The Vibe Lounge, a 40-minute jazz set that runs before the main concert. It's a free pre-show performance, so it's the sort of thing you can arrive early for and catch before the main event gets going.

The Lounge is programmed by The Vibe Collective, a team of about fourteen young creatives based here in Southampton. They're recruited from the University of Southampton student body and 18-25 year olds living in the city, and the whole thing started when the group was challenged to design its own event within a budget. They settled on a jazz club with bespoke drinks, bringing in emerging artists from Hampshire and the surrounding regions. Their mission is to shake up live music at Turner Sims, scout talent from across the country, celebrate local Southampton acts, and turn the foyer into a space aimed at young people. The team works closely with Turner Sims staff to make it happen.

Past performers have included Baby Panna, whose rap-jazz hybrid style drew audiences from across the UK, and Isla Croll. The Collective's focus is on emerging artists, so the line-up changes from one session to the next. The 40-minute set is a pre-concert performance, meaning it's designed to fit into the gap before the main show starts, rather than being a standalone night.

The Vibe Lounge runs on Thursday 26 November from 19:00 in the Turner Sims foyer. It's free, but all audience members must book a ticket in advance.
