The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican bring their comedy-acoustic show to The Attic, reworking famous songs with satirical lyrics.
The Bar-steward Sons of Val Doonican play The Attic on Friday 9 October, bringing their comedy-acoustic show to the venue. It's a night that sits somewhere between a folk gig and a stand-up set, and if you've never come across them, the name is a good place to start: they're a comedy-folk collective of brothers who rework famous songs with satirical lyrics played on folk instruments, all while fronting the show in immaculate hair and stylish knitwear.
They've been at it for a while now. The group was founded in Barnsley Rock City in 2006 by ringleader Scott Doonican, and over the last two decades they've played more than 1,400 shows, recorded fifteen studio albums and over 60 live recordings, and hold the bar-takings record at no fewer than ten theatres. Their best-known numbers include 'Jump Ararnd', 'The Lady In Greggs', 'How Deep Is Your Glove?', 'Paint 'em Back', 'Goat Yoga' and 'Turkey Teeth'.
They've played to crowds of 20,000 at Fairport's Cropredy Convention twice and the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury twice, recorded with Frank Turner and Eliza Carthy, and reached number one and two on the iTunes Comedy Charts. The show is a comedy-acoustic set, so expect the satirical takes on familiar tunes to be the main event.
