Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

Jane Schoenbrun brings Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma to Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Tuesday 25 August, their latest feature and one they describe as their most personal and perhaps most playful film to date.

It's a loving yet irreverent homage to the slasher movies of the 1980s, and it reimagines the Camp Miasma franchise from the inside. The story follows Kris, played by Hannah Einbinder, a filmmaker hired to reboot the series. She tracks down the original 'final girl', Billy, a reclusive former star still living on the camp site, and their encounter begins to unravel the boundaries between fiction, memory and desire. Schoenbrun draws on classics like Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp and Psycho, using the language of horror to look at identity, embodiment and transformation. Like their previous films, We're All Going to the World's Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, it's fascinated by portals: the thresholds between worlds, selves and stories.

On screen, the cast is led by Gillian Anderson, Patrick Fischler and Jasmin Savoy Brown. It's an 18 certificate, 112 minutes long, and it's Schoenbrun's most direct nod to the slasher tradition so far.
