A night of music pitting nu metal riffs against pop punk singalongs at Suburbia.
Taking Back Thursdays: Nu Metal Vs Pop Punk lands at Suburbia on Thursday 15 October, a night that puts two of the early 2000s' biggest sounds against each other. It's a club night, not a live gig, so the music comes from the decks rather than a stage, and the whole thing is built around the tracks you grew up on.
The setlist is designed to hit both sides of the coin. On one hand, you've got the nu metal side: the heavy, downtuned riffs and the rap-inflected vocals that defined the turn of the millennium. On the other, the pop punk side: the fast tempos, the bright guitars, and the singalong choruses. The night works by alternating between the two, so you'll go from a nu metal riff to a pop punk singalong, and back again.
It's the kind of night that leans on the songs you still know every word to, rather than anything new. The nu metal side brings the heavier, more aggressive energy, while the pop punk side keeps things melodic and easy to shout along to. If you spent your teenage years switching between the two, this is exactly that in one night.
