A progressive rock festival featuring performances by EBB and Cephid at The 1865 venue.
The 1865 hosts the Solent Area Prog Festival on Saturday 1 August, a full day of progressive music put on by the venue in arrangement with Solent Area Prog. It's a long one, with the first act starting at 13:30, so you'll want to clear your afternoon.
The bill is a proper prog spread. Saturday EBB are a theatrical art-rock band who've been picking up steam with a song-driven approach to the genre, so they're more about the tunes than the endless jam. Cephid is the latest project from Moray Macdonald, and it brings a laser harp into the mix — Macdonald is best known as the keyboardist for Rammlied, a Rammstein tribute. They're joined by That Joe Payne, The Wood Demons, and Kepler Ten, with more to follow.
It's a good range to work through over the course of the day, and since it's a festival rather than a single headline show, you can drift in and out as you like. The 1865 is Southampton's independent grassroots music and events venue, and the room holds 700, so there's plenty of space to move around. Doors open at 13:00, half an hour before the first set kicks off at 13:30.

One thing to keep in mind if you're bringing the family: the day is open to ages 8 and over, and under-14s need to be accompanied. With the first act starting in the early afternoon, it's one of those days that starts while it's still light out and carries on well into the evening.
