Alternative rock sister duo Skating Polly perform live at The 1865, joined by Lord Friday The 13th.
Skating Polly play The 1865 on Monday 5 October, with Lord Friday The 13th joining them on the bill. The night starts at 7:00 PM at the venue on Brunswick Square in Southampton (SO14 3PE), and the date is presented by arrangement with Sedate Bookings.
Skating Polly are a sister duo from Oklahoma, Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, who formed in 2009 after a jam session at a girls' Halloween party. Both are largely self-taught: Bighorse plays guitar, and Mayo plays a guitar-bass hybrid she calls a 'basitar'. They both play drums and piano as well. Their second album, Lost Wonderfuls (2013), brought together a fair few names from the underground: it was produced by Exene Cervenka of The X, mixed by Kliph Scurlock of The Flaming Lips, and tracked by Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening.
That record earned them the attention of Cervenka, Rosanne Cash, and Sean Lennon. Since then, they've shared a stage with Mike Watt and opened for Deerhoof and Band of Horses. They describe themselves as punk rockers who embrace honesty and explore mental health, self-reflection, and power dynamics in relationships.
