French heavy psychedelic and desert rock band Red Sun Atacama perform live at The Joiners.
Red Sun Atacama play The Joiners on Tuesday 22 September, their first Southampton date in a while. They're a French desert rock power trio from Bordeaux, formed back in 2014, and they've built their sound around a mix of raw punk fury, high-octane heavy psych and impetuous desert rock riffs. The fuzz comes from the Californian legends they cite as influences — Fu Manchu, Kyuss and Brant Bjork — and the whole thing is held together by that same stoner and punk energy.
Their name and songs draw on the Chilean Atacama Desert and Andean magic, and their 2022 album DARWIN (Mrs Red Sound) is driven by that same desert rock, stoner and punk energy. It's a record that sits right in the middle of the sound they've been working on since the start: heavy, fuzzy and loud. They've spent the last few years playing major European festivals, with Hellfest and DesertFest among them, and they're known for an intense, spellbinding stage presence.
