Pre-release event for the Pokemon TCG Pitch Black set with build and battle boxes and a tournament.
Board in the City is hosting a Pokémon TCG pre-release for the Pitch Black expansion on Wednesday 8 July. It's the third pre-release event for the set, so if you missed the first couple, this is your chance to get in before the official launch.
Everyone gets a Build & Battle box to start with, which gives you a pre-constructed deck, four Pitch Black booster packs and a four-card holographic promo pack. From there, it's a three-round tournament, best of one, so you'll be playing through a few matches in one go. If you're new to the game, the pre-built deck takes the guesswork out of the start, and the extra packs let you tweak it as you go.
Pitch Black (ME05) is the fifth expansion in the Mega Evolution series and the English version of the Japanese Abyss Eye set. The theme is a world where city lights and starry skies are swallowed by a mystical darkness, and the heavy hitters are four Mega Evolution Pokémon ex: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex. There are 200 cards in total, with 118 main and secret cards and 82 reverse holo variants.

It's also a bit of a celebration of the Unova region, with specialised artwork for Generation 5. There are over 35 cards with special illustrations, including six Special Illustration Rares, 18 Ultra Rares and 11 Illustration Rares. If you're into the art side of the game, that's where a good chunk of the set's appeal sits. The event is on Wednesday 8 July at Board in the City in Southampton.
