A 3-round, best-of-1 Pokemon TCG tournament featuring the new Pitch Black pre-release build and battle boxes.
Board in the City is hosting the first Pokemon Pitch Black prerelease on Sunday 5 July, one of the first chances to get your hands on the new Pitch Black set. It's a three-round, best-of-one tournament, so you'll be playing three separate games rather than a best-of-three series. Each player gets a pre-release build and a battle box to work with, which means you'll be building your deck on the day and playing with the new cards as soon as they drop.
If you're not already familiar with the venue, Board in the City is a not-for-profit board game cafe in Southampton with a social mission at its heart: 90% of its team members have an extra need, and they aim to support everyone's needs from both sides of the bar. The space runs over 2,000 square feet and holds a gaming library of more than 1,200 titles, so there's plenty to browse if you're arriving early or sticking around after your rounds. They usually have Games Masters on-site to help with recommendations, setup, and gameplay, which is handy if you're new to the TCG or just want a hand getting a game off the shelf.

It's a sanctioned venue for Magic the Gathering FNM, Pokemon, Lorcana, and Star Wars Unlimited, so it's a regular spot for TCG players in the city. This is the first of the Pitch Black prereleases they're running, and it's a best-of-one format, which keeps things moving quickly across the three rounds. Entry is £25, and you'll be playing at Board in the City CIC in Southampton, SO14 0JG, on Sunday 5 July.
