A screening of the Metropolitan Opera's live HD broadcast of Mozart's satirical comedy Così fan tutte, staged by Phelim McDermott.
Harbour Lights Picturehouse is screening Mozart's Così fan tutte on Friday 9 October, as part of the Met: Live in HD season. It's a cinema broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera's production, so you get the full performance on the big screen rather than a cut-down version. The screening starts at 4:25pm and runs for 3 hours and 57 minutes, including intervals, which means you'll be out well before dinner.
Così fan tutte is Mozart's satirical comedy about fickle young love. The production is by Phelim McDermott, who's described it as colourful and inventive, and he's taken his inspiration from Coney Island in the 1950s. The action unfolds at a boardwalk amusement park, where two pairs of lovers are sent on one emotional and literal thrill ride after another. It's a bright, high-energy setting for a story that's essentially about testing people's loyalty.
The cast features soprano Federica Lombardi and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as Fiordiligi and Dorabella, with tenor Duke Kim and baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky as Ferrando and Guglielmo. The cynical Don Alfonso is played by bass-baritone Gerald Finley, and the maid Despina is soprano Ana Mara Martnez. It's a large ensemble, and the production is shown in its full duration with intervals, so you'll see the whole thing as it was performed at the Met.
