Max Fulham, fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, presents his new comedy show blending stand-up with ventriloquism and puppetry at the Mayflower Theatre.
Max Fulham is back at the Mayflower Theatre on 25 and 26 September, bringing his new comedy show More Ham to Southampton. It's a return to the city for him, too: he starred in the theatre's 2025/26 pantomime, so he's already a familiar face around here. This time he's coming straight from his second run at the Edinburgh Fringe, and More Ham is the new material he's been road-testing up there.
The show sits in that slightly rare space between stand-up and variety. Fulham is a ventriloquist and a puppeteer, and the set blends the two with his comedy, so you'll get the talking-to-himself part alongside the stand-up. He's joined on stage by his sidekick, Gordon the Monkey, and a few other characters, and the whole thing mixes traditional variety with a more contemporary comedy feel.
If you're not familiar with his work, he's built a bit of a reputation. Rowan Atkinson has called him 'exceptionally talented', and North West End described him as 'the most skilful ventriloquist of his time'. The Sunday Times put it in similar terms, saying he's 'destined for a Royal Variety Performance... simply tremendous'.
