Belfast hip hop trio Kneecap open their UK tour at the O2 Guildhall, performing tracks from their album 'FENIAN'.
Kneecap are at the O2 Guildhall on Saturday 28 November, opening their UK tour here in Southampton. They're an Irish language rap trio from Belfast, Northern Ireland, made up of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí. They've built a notoriety unseen in Irish music for years, and they're often described as a frighteningly articulate group.
The show is part of their Fenian World Tour, which follows the release of their critically acclaimed album FENIAN. They describe the record as darker, more confrontational and more assured than anything they've done before, and it's the material that's driving this run of dates. The set leans on tracks like 'Éire go Deo', 'FENIAN', 'H.O.O.D' and 'THE RECAP', alongside covers of Fontaines D.C.'s 'Favourite' and Dominic Behan's 'Come Out, Ye Black and Tans'.
There's a fair bit of weight behind the live show too. NME gave it four and a half stars, likening the energy to The Chemical Brothers mixed with the electro-punk abandon of The Prodigy and the fire of Public Enemy, while Morello called them 'the Rage Against The Machine of now'. It's a good shorthand for what they bring to the stage: rap, electronics and a fair amount of noise.
