The Joiners hosts the Itchen College Showcase, displaying year 1 students' musical skills.
The Joiners hosts the Itchen College Showcase on Thursday 12 October, a night that puts the musical skills of the college's year 1 students on display. It's a local showcase in the truest sense, with the stage handed over to a group of young musicians from right here in Southampton rather than a touring act passing through.
What that means in practice is a line-up made up of the college's own students. These are year 1s, so they're still early in their course, and the night is built around them playing their own material. Rather than a single band, you'll hear a series of sets from different students and groups, each getting their own time on the bill. It's the kind of night where the draw is seeing who's come through the doors and what they've been working on in the rehearsal rooms.
Having it at The Joiners gives the whole thing a proper gig feel. It's a venue that's seen plenty of early-career starts over the years, and that fits the bill here — these are students stepping out of the college environment and onto a real stage. If you've got friends or family in the mix, it's a good chance to see them play; if not, it's a straightforward way to catch some of the city's newer musical talent in one go.
