An evening of comedy with live performances by Something Comedy, after-hours access to the venue's exhibitions and street food.
God's House Tower hosts a GHT Lates comedy night this Friday 31 July, with William Stone, Verity Babbs, Joe Wells and Serena Smart on the bill, presented by Something Comedy. It's a late one, and the comedy is only part of it: the venue stays open after hours, so you can wander through the exhibitions between sets.
That's the thing about the Lates nights here — they're not just a gig. You've got the live comedy, and then you've got the exhibitions to drift in and out of. Two of them are Stories Behind the Stones and Facing the Planet by Tessa Coe and Jane Coyle. If you're coming for the comedy, you can still make time for the art; if you're coming for the art, there's a full line-up of four acts to break up the evening.
And then there's the food. Mama's Kitchen will be serving authentic Thai street food on the night, so you can grab something to eat and settle in. It's a good way to stretch the evening out — a bit of comedy, a walk through the galleries, and some Thai street food in between.

It's worth remembering where this is all happening. God's House Tower is one of the Old Town's oldest landmarks, with a history that goes back to the 13th century. King Edward III ordered it built as a defensive measure after a French raid in 1338, and it's an early example of a fort equipped with cannons and gunpowder, once a strategic vantage point over the Solent. Over the centuries, parts of it served as a town jail before it became an archaeology museum; these days it's the city's arts and heritage hub. The same venue also runs the GHT Summer Art Market, a shopping experience that supports local artists. The comedy night is on Friday 31 July at God's House Tower in Southampton.
