Spanish folk music band El Pony Pisador from Barcelona return to the UK for a live show at Hanger Farm Arts Centre.
El Pony Pisador are back in the UK, playing Hanger Farm Arts Centre on Sunday 1 November. They're a five-piece from Barcelona, and the name comes from JRR Tolkien's The Prancing Pony inn in The Lord of the Rings.
What they do is hard to pin to one tradition. They start with Catalan sea shanties and pull in bluegrass, yodelling, Tuvan throat singing, and Georgian and Balkan polyphony. It's a wide reach for one band, and they've put out four albums so far, the most recent being Ocells. They also recorded with the English sea shanty group The Longest Johns, a collaboration that's helped them gather over 6 million plays.
They've spent a lot of time on the road. Their touring has taken them from Spain to Australia, Portugal, Norway, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and the US. This year that included six sold-out Australian shows, and 2023 saw more than 50 performances, including their first date in Asia at the Hozo Music Festival in Ho Chi Minh. Vocalist and guitarist Ramon Anglada Jaraquemada says they love playing in the UK, so this is a return to familiar ground.
