A high-energy live ska-pop show headlined by Death of Guitar Pop, featuring five other UK ska artists and a DJ set, presented by Ska Club Essex.
Death of Guitar Pop headline The 1865 on Saturday 10 October, fronted by Silky and Top Kat with a high-energy live ska-pop show. They're the main act in an all-day celebration of ska presented by Ska Club Essex, which brings six UK ska artists together on one bill. It runs from 2:00pm through to midnight, so it's a long haul rather than a quick evening out.
Joining them are The Decatonics, billed as one of the UK's premier eight-piece ska and 2-Tone bands, and Rookie Numbers, who bring heavy ska-punk beats and anthemic brass lines. Madame Claude and Technicolour Steam Train round out the live line-up. Between the sets, DJ Nick Newcombe spins classic 2-Tone, reggae and ska on vinyl, keeping the dancefloor going when the bands are off. With six acts across ten hours, the day covers a fair bit of ground within the genre, from the 2-Tone sound to the punkier side of things.

Ska Club Essex describes the whole thing as an all-day celebration of all things Ska, and they make a note that people often turn up in boots and braces — a staple look of the culture. It's a day for the dancefloor as much as the stage, so come prepared to stay for a while. Tickets are £40.41, and the show is open to ages 8 and over, with under-14s needing to be accompanied by an adult. The 1865 is in Brunswick Square, Southampton, SO14 3AR.
