Call Me, Mother Nature

Call Me, Mother Nature comes to the Turner Sims main auditorium on Thursday 17 September, as part of the British Science Festival's 2026 run in Southampton. It's a musical comedy produced by Bizaah Arts CIC, and it's built around puppets and audience participation.

The premise is a bit of a flip: Mother Nature herself turns up as the keynote speaker at the Ecosystem Service annual conference. From there, she lays out two possible futures — one where humanity solves climate change and one where it doesn't. It's an anarchic show that gives a voice to the environment, to technology, and to Mother Nature herself, and it doesn't shy away from the heavier side of things. There's adult language, simulated physical violence, and discussions of climate anxiety, so it's not suitable for anyone under 16.

It's one of about 100 free events, exhibitions, performances and installations the British Science Festival is spreading across the city over five days. The festival is Europe's longest-running science festival, and it moves to a different UK city each year — Southampton is the host for 2026.

The show starts at 8pm and runs for about an hour and a half. It's free to attend, so you can head down to the Turner Sims on the 17th without needing to dig into your pocket.
