Concert by Baby Dave, the solo bedroom-pop and electro-punk project of Isaac Holman, at The Joiners.
Baby Dave plays The Joiners on Wednesday 14 October, a solo show from Isaac Holman. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Holman is the frontman and drummer of the British punk duo Soft Play, formerly known as Slaves. This is his other project, and it's a fair distance from the blitz and bluster of the band.
Baby Dave started when Holman was stuck at home during lockdown, messing about with music in a way that sat a world away from Soft Play's loud, high-energy sound. Over time it grew into something sonically distinct, though it still carries his signature charisma and candidness — this time turned inward, airing his own personal quirks and anxieties. His debut album was produced in collaboration with Damon Albarn, the Blur and Gorillaz mastermind, who helped shape the record's particular feel.

Live, the show trades on lo-fi synth beats, bedroom-pop grooves and sharp, humorous spoken-word vignettes that capture everyday British life. It's a mix of music and storytelling, with the spoken parts sitting alongside the songs rather than acting as a break between them. The set is presented by The Joiners, and the night is recommended for ages 14 and over, with under-18s needing to be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £18, and the show starts at 7:00 PM at The Joiners, 141 St Mary Street, Southampton SO14 1NS.
