First-round morning session of the 2027 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre, marking 100 years since the first championship.
The World Snooker Championship returns to the Crucible Theatre on Saturday 17 April, and this year's edition carries a bit more weight than usual: it marks exactly 100 years since the first championship was held in 1927. The morning session on the 17th kicks off the first round, which runs through to 22 April, with the whole tournament continuing until 3 May. It's a ranking event with a £3,000,000 prize fund, and Wu Yize arrives as defending champion after his 18-17 win over Shaun Murphy in the 2026 final.
For the first few rounds, play runs across two tables with a partition dividing the playing area, and it stays that way through the quarter-finals. From the semi-finals onwards, it drops down to a single table. The final day is Monday 3 May, which falls on the Early May bank holiday, so you've got a long weekend to work around if you're planning to see the business end of it.
One thing that catches people out is how the tickets work: you buy a reserved seat for a single session rather than for a whole match, so if you want to follow a particular player through the day, you'll need to book accordingly. There are also hospitality packages available, including the Legends Walk, the 1875 Club and the Century Club, if you're after something more than just a seat in the stand.
