Mystery Ensemble bring to life the macabre music of Danny Elfman from Tim Burton's films in a live theatrical experience.
Mystery Ensemble bring the music of Danny Elfman to Victoria Hall on Friday 30 October, a night that works its way through the soundscapes of Tim Burton's cinematic universe. Elfman has been Burton's lifelong collaborator and is one of the most distinctive film composers of our time, and his scores sit right at the heart of the set.
The programme draws on Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Batman and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The ensemble performs them in their own arrangements, with soaring voices and bold instrumental colours. It's billed as a live theatrical experience rather than a mere soundtrack concert, so it's more about the performance on stage than just running through a list of familiar themes.
Mystery Ensemble is a group of professional musicians founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander, who has spent more than 12 years in the music industry. His studio put on over 40 UK shows in its first year, and this is one of the nights they're staging. The concert runs from 19:30 to 20:30, an hour of music that pulls from across Burton's career, from the gothic whimsy of The Nightmare Before Christmas to the darker edges of Sweeney Todd.
