Live show by the Tanzanian duo The Zawose Queens, Pendo and Leah Zawose, at Firth Hall on Western Bank.
The Zawose Queens play Firth Hall on Friday 13 November, their show titled From Starman to Shaman. It's a Tanzanian duo, Pendo Zawose and Leah Zawose, and the name comes from the Zawose musical family, one of Tanzania's most well-known musical dynasties. If you've come across that name before, it's because the family has been a fixture of the country's music scene for generations, and these two carry that lineage forward. The title From Starman to Shaman gives a fair hint of the ground they cover, and the set is built around that contrast.
As a duo, Pendo and Leah bring the family's musical heritage into a live setting, and the show is billed as From Starman to Shaman.
It's at Firth Hall in Firth Court, Western Bank, Sheffield S10 2TN. Doors open at 19:00, the show starts at 19:30, and it's expected to finish around 21:30, so it's a proper evening's music rather than a short set. Seating is unreserved, so if you want a particular spot, it's worth getting there a bit early. Under-14s need to be accompanied by an adult.
