Talk by historian Arthur Snell about his book 'Elemental' and the climate crisis, in conversation with Jo Gavins, at Firth Hall.
Arthur Snell is at Firth Hall on Saturday 24 October, talking about the geopolitics of climate. He's a historian and an expert on how geopolitics and climate change intersect, with more than 30 years' experience working in conflict zones and fragile states. The session centres on his book Elemental, which he's structured in four sections — Earth, Air, Fire and Water — and blends reportage with analysis and interviews to show how the climate crisis is reshaping power, economies and everyday life. He also uses it to offer an alternative vision of how humanity might adapt and even thrive on a warming planet.
He won't be on his own for the talk; Jo Gavins, Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Sheffield, joins him for the conversation. Rory Stewart called the book a masterpiece.
