Navigation challenge in which participants surrender their phones and maps, are blindfolded and bussed to an undisclosed drop point, then find their way back on foot.
The Drop comes to Up & Running on Sunday 15 November, starting at 10:00. It's not a race in any normal sense of the word. There are no course markers, no directions and no reassurance. It's a stripped-back navigation challenge run by Organic Adventure Ltd, and it starts with you handing over your phone, watch and map. Then you're blindfolded and bussed to an undisclosed drop point. From there, the only objective is to find your own way back to the event centre on foot, with no map, GPS or compass, carrying nothing but a sealed emergency bag.
There are three distances to choose from: 6, 10 and 15 miles. The 15-mile version is the original and the toughest, while the 10-mile offers the same pressure in a shorter, sharper format. The 6-mile is strictly for non-locals, because local knowledge would strip the challenge of its uncertainty. It's worth keeping in mind that distances are measured as the crow flies, so the actual route you cover will be significantly longer than the 6, 10 or 15 miles advertised.
If you're worried about the blindfold and the lack of a map, there's an optional live GPS tracking system available for safety and for friends and family to follow your progress. It's a bit of a gamble, and that's the whole point: you're left to your own devices to navigate back to the start.
