Free spinning workshop held at Memorial Hall in Sheffield.
There's a Spinning Workshop coming to Memorial Hall on Saturday 9 January, and it's one of those things that's easier to explain when you're actually there. If you've never tried spinning before, it's the process of twisting raw fibres — like wool or flax — into yarn or thread. It's a slow, rhythmic kind of craft, and the workshop is set up to take you through it from the ground up.
Over the course of the session, you'll get to grips with the basics: how to prepare your fibres, how to get them onto the wheel, and how to keep a steady tension as you spin. It's a tactile thing, and there's something satisfying about watching a loose pile of wool turn into a usable length of yarn right in front of you. If you've always wondered how it's done, this is a good way to see it first-hand rather than just reading about it.
It's a morning session, starting at 10:00, so you'll be done and away by lunchtime. The workshop runs at Memorial Hall in Sheffield, and it's open to anyone interested, regardless of whether you've ever touched a spinning wheel before. If you're coming in with no experience, that's fine — the whole point is to learn the process from the start.
