Soul II Soul

Soul II Soul are playing Sheffield City Hall on Saturday 24 October, their only Sheffield date of the year. It's a full-band show, so you'll get the group on stage rather than a DJ set.

If you've never heard of them, it's worth knowing where they come from. Soul II Soul started in London's sound-system culture, and they're credited with helping shift the direction of British soul, R&B and dance music. They built their following by turning ordinary house parties into something more, using an innovative sound system and immersive performances. At the heart of it was their Funki Dred philosophy, which tied music, fashion, visual identity and community together. It wasn't just about the songs; it was about the whole scene they built around them.

That sound eventually reached a much wider audience. Hits like 'Keep On Movin'' and 'Back To Life' won them two Grammy Awards and international fame, and their influence still carries through to British soul, R&B, dance and electronic music today. The Sheffield show will be a live performance of that material, with the group on stage rather than just a record playing.

The gig is at Sheffield City Hall, Barker's Pool, Sheffield S1 2JA, on Saturday 24 October, starting at 7:45 pm. Tickets go from £45.00 up to £125.00, depending on where you sit.
