An all-star powerlifting contest where 12 men and 12 women compete across weight categories to break world record totals and crown a Champion of Champions.
The Sheffield Powerlifting Championships V returns to the Utilita Arena Sheffield on Saturday 21 November 2026, starting at 15:30. It's the fifth edition of the event, and this time it's moved into a bigger venue, which the organisers have billed as the heaviest night in powerlifting.
The roster is an all-star line-up: 12 men and 12 women competing across weight categories from lightweight to superheavyweight. The format is what sets this apart from a standard meet. Rather than competing only against people in their own weight class, every lifter is scored on the same metric: who can break the world record total by the greatest margin across the three lifts — the squat, the bench press and the deadlift. It levels the field from the lightweights right up to the superheavyweights, so the smaller lifters are on the same footing as the biggest.
That single metric is what decides the night, which crowns a Champion of Champions. The field arrives with the aim of pushing their limits, and with the world record totals as the benchmark, there's a real chance of seeing some of those records broken on the night. It's less about who can lift the most in absolute terms and more about who can beat the existing world standard by the widest gap.
