Jazz concert by vocalist Sara Colman and pianist Rebecca Nash, built around their album 'Ribbons'.
Sara Colman and Rebecca Nash bring their partnership to Crookes Social Club on Friday 23 October, as part of the Sheffield Jazz programme. Colman on vocals and Nash on piano have worked together for a decade, and the set is built around that long-running pairing.
Much of the night comes from Ribbons, the album they released on Stoney Lane Records in February 2026. It's a collection of original writing and improvisations that pulls from a wide spread of influences: Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones on the songwriting side, John Taylor, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Debussy on the jazz and classical. Colman is a songwriting competition 'Lyricist of the Year' awardee who has worked with Laura Mvula and Mahalia; Nash has been described by Julian Joseph as 'one of the freshest most creative talents in the UK'.
They aren't playing as a duo, though. They're joined by Henrik Jensen on double bass and Jonathan Silk on drums, so the songs get a full band behind them. Critics have called the pairing 'one of the UK's most distinctive creative dialogues' (Presto Music), with 'exquisite vocals' alongside 'blindingly beautiful chord structures' (UK Vibe).
