A live orchestral performance reimagining the golden era of 90s and 00s R&B classics under the lights of Sheffield Cathedral.
R&B Classics comes to Sheffield Cathedral on Saturday 17 October, with The Infinity Orchestra & Okiem taking the stage under the cathedral's arches. It's presented by Classics In The City, and the whole thing is a standing event with limited capacity, so it'll be a relatively small crowd rather than a packed house.
The night is built around the golden era of 90s and 00s R&B, reimagined through a live orchestra. The set draws on the soulful sounds of Alicia Keys, Usher, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, TLC, Ne-Yo and Destiny's Child, all performed by The Infinity Orchestra & Okiem, an ensemble of musicians and vocalists. It's billed as an immersive, classical-meets-contemporary celebration, and the cathedral setting—with its high arches and glowing lights—is a big part of the draw.
If you know those names, you've got a good idea of the ground the night covers: the smooth, melodic R&B of the late 90s and early 2000s, the kind of songs that were on every radio station and CD player back then, now played by a full orchestra and a group of singers. It's a specific era of music, and the whole evening is dedicated to it.
