An unscripted improvisational comedy show featuring Paul Merton and Suki Webster, with special guest Mike McShane, delivering fast-paced surreal games and scenes.
Paul Merton and Suki Webster are bringing their improv show to The Steamworks on Saturday 24 October, following runs in London and Edinburgh. It's an unscripted night built from fast, surreal improvised games, scenes and stories, so nothing is written in advance and the whole thing is made up on the spot. Joining them on stage is improv virtuoso Mike McShane, along with a host of special guests.
If you're not familiar with the two leads, they're both heavyweights of the UK improv scene. Merton is well known for his dry wit, having spent years as a team captain on Have I Got News For You and as the presenter of Room 101. Webster is a regular guest of The Comedy Store Players and has toured the world with Paul Merton And His Impro Chums; she also co-wrote Paul Merton Looks at Alfred Hitchcock for BBC4 and a Morecambe and Wise tribute show for BBC1. Eddie Izzard once described her as "funny, sexy, dirty – usually all at the same time".
Because it's improv, the night is built around the room and the moment rather than a set script, so it's the kind of show that changes every time it's performed. The reviews have been kind: One4Review called them "among the best in the business", Broadway Baby described it as "hilariously absurd", and The Scots Reviewer said they've "established themselves as two of the UK's best".
