Glasgow blues-rock band King King, fronted by Alan Nimmo, play the Crookes Social Club.
King King play Crookes Social Club on Friday 11 December, their only Sheffield date that winter. They're a Glaswegian blues-rock band fronted by Alan Nimmo, and if you've come across them before, you'll know the sound is built around his guitar. Blues Rock Review called them the 'best blues-rock band in the world', and they've built a reputation for scorching live shows since they first came out.
Nimmo is the one who'll be leading from the front, and he's not one to play it safe. He's said the band 'isn't stopping to smell the roses' and wants to take things as far as they can. That's the spirit that carries through their latest album, Maverick, which is out and will be a good place to start if you're new to them. The record sits right in the middle of their blues-rock wheel, and it's the kind of thing they'll be drawing from for the set.
On stage, Nimmo is backed by Zander Greenshields, Stevie Nimmo, Andrew Scott and Jonny Dyke. It's a five-piece line-up, so there's a full band behind him rather than just a few accompanists, and they're known for an electrifying sound that works best when it's played loud. They've drawn a fair bit of attention since their debut, and this is one of the nights they're taking that sound to a room in Sheffield.
