Live show by singer-songwriter James Dixon, who fuses 1960s folk-blues with grunge and rock, at The Lescar.
James Dixon plays The Lescar on Friday 23 October, with the set starting at 19:30. He's an emerging singer-songwriter who describes his music as 'Anglo-Celtic Soul', a label that gives you a fair idea of where he's coming from: he fuses the transatlantic folk-blues of the 1960s and 70s revival with the power and grit of the grunge and rock he was raised on. It's a sound that pulls from two different eras, and the 'Anglo-Celtic' part points to the folk traditions he's working with.
He's not entirely new to the scene, and he's picked up some high-profile support along the way. Luther Dickinson, of the North Mississippi Allstars, called him a 'genuine Troubadour straight out of the old school', and Seasick Steve described him as 'the best support act I've ever had'. Both are names from the blues and roots world, and their take on him as a troubadour fits with the folk-blues side of his description. If you're into that kind of songwriting, this is exactly the sort of thing he does.
