Gentleman's Dub Club, the Leeds dub and reggae outfit, play their 20th anniversary show at Crookes Social Club.
Gentleman's Dub Club play Crookes Social Club on Saturday 24 October, with the music starting at 7:30pm. It's a Leeds-based dub and reggae outfit built around heavyweight basslines, tight grooves and live mixing, and their gigs often tip into a full dancefloor mosh. They've been at it since early 2006, and this show marks their 20th anniversary.
Over those two decades they've become one of the most respected names in the scene, touring for more than ten years and drawing crowds of 10,000 or more across the UK and Europe. There are seven studio albums to their name, and they've played Glastonbury and Latitude, supported Madness, The Wailers and UB40, and their mainstage set at Boomtown drew nearly 100,000 people. Championed by David Rodigan and Radio 1, they've worked with artists like Brad Ellis of Nextmen, Fat Freddy's Drop, Prince Fatty and Hollie Cook, and released Lost in Space on Easy Star Records in 2019.
It's a long run for a band that started in a Leeds rehearsal room, and this Sheffield date falls right in the middle of that 20-year stretch. If you're not familiar, the sound is exactly what the name suggests: dub and reggae played live, with the bass doing a lot of the heavy lifting and the dancefloor usually following suit. It's a big occasion for them, and the 20th anniversary makes it a bit more than just another gig on the tour.
