A candlelight tribute concert to the music of Michael Jackson performed by a string quartet at Sheffield Cathedral.
Candlelight: Tribute to Michael Jackson comes to Sheffield Cathedral on Friday 23 October, with a second date on Friday 13 November. It's a string quartet performing Michael Jackson's hits, and the venue is lit by nothing but the glow of countless flickering candles. The music is played by a quartet of top local musicians, and the show runs for about an hour.
The setlist pulls from across his career, starting with the early days of I Want You Back and Rock With You, and moving into the big hits like Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Black or White, Bad, and Thriller. There's Human Nature, Say Say Say, Remember the Time, and They Don't Really Care About Us in there too, along with the more melodic, sweeping ones: We Are the World, Man in the Mirror, Heal the World, and Earth Song. It's a long list of songs stripped back to strings, so you'll hear the melodies and the arrangements rather than the dancefloor production.
Sheffield Cathedral is one of the city's five Grade I listed buildings, an unusual blend of medieval and modern architecture with the earliest section dating to around 1200 and the newest completed in 1966. The tribute is entirely independent: it's not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Michael Jackson, his estate or any official representatives.
