World Karate Organisation Open World Championships held at the Pondsforge International Arena.
The World Karate Organisation is bringing the WKO Open World Championships to Pondsforge International Arena from 16 to 18 July 2027. It's a three-day event, so if you're planning to head down, you've got a bit of a window to catch the different stages of the competition rather than having to fit it all into one afternoon.
For those who aren't familiar, the WKO is the World Karate Organisation, and this is their Open World Championships. The 'Open' part is the key: it's not just for one specific style or a closed circuit, so you'll see competitors coming in from all over. It's a global gathering of karateka, and having it land here in Sheffield means you can watch it without having to travel halfway across the country.
Because it runs across three days, the action builds. The early days are where the bulk of the competing happens, and as the field narrows, the focus shifts towards the finals. If you're only going for one day, it's worth checking the schedule to see when the categories you're most interested in are fighting, as the different weight classes and divisions usually run on separate days.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Sheffield and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's all held at Pondsforge International Arena, which is right in the city centre, so it's easy to get to on foot or by tram. The championships run from 16 to 18 July 2027, three days of karate in the heart of Sheffield.
