Live music show with world-class musicians and vocals paying tribute to jazz, soul, and blues icons, blending a soul-funk sound with improvisation.
The Jazz Room brings its New Orleans-inspired show to Columbia City Theater on Saturday, January 9, 2027. The set is a tribute to jazz, soul, and blues, with a program that pulls from the standards of the New Orleans tradition: St. James Infirmary, When The Saints Go Marching In, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Basin Street Blues, and Hello Dolly.
What they're doing here is pairing a soul-funk sound with a blend of those setlist standards and a fair amount of improvisation. It's played by world-class musicians working across jazz, soul, and blues, and they describe the performance as more than just a concert. The New Orleans influence runs through the whole thing, from the song choices to the way they lean into the improvisational side of the music.
It's one of a couple of jazz-focused shows the venue has on the books; they also stage The Jazz Room: A Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong tribute. The room is 21-and-over and ADA compliant.
