A free, no-pressure open mic night of fast, funny, unscripted improv comedy run by Unexpected Productions Improv School.
Taste of Improv is back at Unexpected Productions on Saturday, October 10, for another open mic night of unscripted comedy. It's a free, no-pressure jam run by the Unexpected Productions Improv School, and it's open to all levelsβso you can either get up on stage and play or just hang out in the audience and watch. The school bills it as a night of laughter, creativity and community where you can connect and play as part of the local improv scene.
If you've never been, here's how it works: it's an open mic, so the performers are people from the community rather than a set cast. Because it's improv, nothing is scripted, and the scenes are built on the fly. It's a low-stakes environment, which is why they call it "no-pressure"βit's as much about the process of playing as it is about the finished product.
The night takes place in the Stage Room at the Unexpected Productions Improv School, 5700 6th Ave in Georgetown. That same room also hosts Improv Unexpected, the show that brings the school's improv to the neighborhood, where the cast takes audience suggestions and spontaneously builds stories, scenes and songs on the spot. If you're already familiar with that one, this is the more open-ended, jam-session version of the same energy.
