Marimba-punk band Son Rompe Pera performs live with special guest Lobo Lara at Nectar Lounge.
Son Rompe Pera play Nectar Lounge on Thursday, October 29, with special guest Lobo Lara. The night is presented by Freakout, Nectar, and Solid Sound.
Son Rompe Pera is the project of the Gama brothers, born and raised in Naucalpan on the deep outskirts of Mexico City. They grew up within their family's marimba music legacy, and that tradition is still the root of everything they do. From there, they push the instrument into the garage and punk world of urban misfits, planting it squarely in the 21st century. Their shows have become home to the now-infamous 'marimba mosh pit,' which draws intergenerational crowds to their hard-hitting, punk-infused cumbias. The duo arrives with two critically acclaimed records and hundreds of shows on some of the world's most prestigious stages.
If you're not familiar with the sound, the description tells the story: cumbias played on marimba but with a punk energy that encourages a mosh pit. It's a family tradition dragged into the garage and played loud. The Gama brothers have spent years refining that approach, and this is one of the few places you'll see a marimba leading a room like that.
