Concert by the world folk and Americana band Rising Appalachia at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle.
Rising Appalachia play the Neptune Theatre on Friday, March 19, 2027, at 6 PM. They're an Americana and world folk band that's grown from a back-porch start into a global touring act, and this is their Seattle stop.
The group was started by sisters Leah and Chloe Smith in Georgia, raised on a mix of hip-hop and Appalachian folk and drawing on their families' musical traditions. Over nearly two decades, they've played everywhere from busking in New Orleans to touring Europe, with stops at Red Rocks, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and the Woodford Folk Fest, as well as appearances on NPR's Tiny Desk and at Preservation Hall.
Their sound blends Southern-rooted music, storytelling, and community with Appalachian, Irish, and traditional influences. It's carried by poetic voices in harmonies alongside spoken word, and the instrumentation is wide: banjos, fiddles, many drums, kalimbas, spoons, and washboard. The current lineup features David Brown on bass and guitar, Duncan Wickel on fiddle and cello, and Biko Casini on percussion.
