Glass artists demonstrate their craft and sell handmade pieces in the MarketFront Pavilion at Pike Place Market as part of the regional Refract festival.
Refract: Artistry in Glass takes over the MarketFront Pavilion on Saturday, October 17, from 11 AM to 4 PM. It's part of the region-wide Refract glass art festival, and this particular day is built around Pike Place Market's 'Meet the Producer' tradition: an intimate setting where you can watch glass artists transform molten glass into finished pieces right in front of you.
The day is split into two parts. The Handmade Craft Market brings together live glassblowing and flamework demonstrations alongside a showcase of work you can take home. If you spend $50 or more on glass art, you can pick up a handmade piece as a bonus. The demonstrations are the real draw here—watching the process from the furnace to the finished object is a different experience than just seeing the final piece on a shelf.
There's a long list of artists showing their work: Bill Aune (Whistling at the Moon), Isis Ray, Tisbury & James Ennis (Tisbury Art Glass), Cindy Mounts (Glassy Productions), Kyle Kinsey (Fusion In Glass), Joshua Swanson & Motoko Hayashi (KOBO Art Garden), Gina Karaba (Karaba Art Glass), Kattie & Jeremy Custer (DrinkingStraws.Glass), Joel Meyers (J.M. Creations), and Korina Oswald (Glass Breaker Club). Of that group, Gina Karaba, Tisbury & James Ennis, and Joel Meyers will be the ones doing the live demonstrations.
