A free dance show featuring Tariq Mitri performing a solo iteration of his work in progress, WHOLE.
Tariq Mitri performs at the 12th Ave Arts Lobby on Saturday, October 10, at 6:30 PM. He'll be showing Whole, a solo iteration of an evening-length work that's still in progress, so this is a look at the piece while it's still being shaped.
Mitri is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher based here in Seattle. He was born in Abu Dhabi and raised in Portland, Oregon, and earned his BFA in Dance Performance from CalArts in 2015. Since then, he's performed with more than 25 choreographers and companies, including a stretch from 2019 to 2021 as Rehearsal and Co-Director of the Brooklyn-based company HEIDCO. He was a longtime Dance Church teacher from 2017 to 2024, returned to Seattle in 2022, and has spent the time since deepening his understanding of his Palestinian heritage within his art-making.
His choreography has been presented by the International Dance Festival New Orleans, Velocity Dance Center, Friends of Waterfront Seattle, and the Seattle Art Museum's SAM Remix. In 2024, he received a Body Space Time Residency through the University of Washington, and in April 2025 he premiered his first evening-length work, Of Us, with Jenna Eady. He's a 2026 Centrum Foundation Emerging Artist Resident, a co-founder and teacher of Dance Class, and currently serves as the Program and Operations Manager for Base: Experimental Arts + Space.
