Pacific Northwest Ballet presents Kent Stowell's interpretation of the classic ballet Swan Lake, set to Tchaikovsky's score.
Pacific Northwest Ballet brings Swan Lake back to Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at Seattle Center from February 5 to 20, 2027. It's Kent Stowell's interpretation of the classic, set to Tchaikovsky's score, and it's a production PNB has kept in its repertoire since 1981. The company describes it as a story of romance, sorcery, and heartbreak, and The Seattle Times once called it "a doomed, gorgeous love story."
There's a long history behind this particular version. Stowell's Swan Lake premiered in Frankfurt on October 1, 1976, and first reached PNB stages on April 7, 1981. It was later remounted in a new production that premiered on September 25, 2003. The choreography is Stowell's, with staging by Francia Russell after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. The scenic design is by Ming Cho Lee, costumes by Paul Tazewell, and lighting by Randall G. Chiarelli.
Around the main run, PNB is programming a few extras for anyone who wants more than just the performance. There are Swan Lake Conversations & Dress Rehearsal, a Ballet Talk, an opening night dinner, and audio-described performances. If you're following along for specific dancers, the company announces the casting five days in advance.
