Free dance show Crush 21 by Kelly Langeslay, part of the OUT THERE festival.
Kelly Langeslay brings Crush 21 to the 12th Ave Arts Lobby on Friday, October 9, as part of the OUT THERE festival. It's a free dance show, and it's one of the pieces that makes up this year's lineup.
Langeslay is a queer dancer and writer whose work tells stories to and about the audience. Their recent research looks at queer futurity and ghosts through a wide-ranging mix of sources: the writing of José Muñoz, CGI Barbie movies, early 2010s pop music, and conversations with friends—much of it made possible through the public library. They describe themselves as driven by a love of excess, a nostalgia for a nonexistent past, and a hunger for approval, and they aspire to create "a pathetic kind of art through a pathetic way of living."
Crush 21 sits within OUT THERE, an experimental dance festival by Comms presented through Velocity Dance Center's Regional Creative Incubator Program. The program connects West Coast experimental dance artists with each other and with Seattle audiences, and the festival is back for its second year in a row. The 2026 season is supported by 4Culture, the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, ArtsFund, and Creative West, and underwritten by John C. Robinson and the Glenn Kawasaki Foundation.
