A market supporting Native artisans with apparel, jewelry, drums, and prints from master artists, upholding the Indian Arts and Crafts Act.
The November Native Art Market returns to the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center on Saturday and Sunday, November 21-22, from 10 AM to 5 PM both days. It's a weekend market built around supporting Native artisans and empowering Indigenous communities, and the work on display comes from master Native artists.
You'll find apparel, jewelry, drums, and prints. The organizers make a point of upholding the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, which is their way of ensuring the cultural integrity of every piece—so what you're buying is actually made by Native artists, not just inspired by them.
Daybreak Star is the headquarters of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation. Completed in 1977, the center has become a hub for Native peoples and their supporters locally, nationally, and internationally. It houses a permanent collection of Native art and the Sacred Circle Gallery, which shows rotating exhibits by contemporary Native artists. The foundation also runs the Sacred Circle Gift Shop and another, Yubec, in Fremont, and hosts the annual Seafair Indian Days Powwow and Indigenous People's Day celebrations. The market is one of the many ways the center brings Native art and people into the city's public life.
