Kiefer, a central figure in Los Angeles's independent music scene, performs jazz, R&B, hip-hop and electronic music with Shibo at Nectar Lounge.
Kiefer plays Nectar Lounge on Friday, October 16, with Shibo joining him. The show is presented by Nectar and Earshot Jazz, and it's a 21+ event.
Kiefer is a central figure in Los Angeles's independent music scene, and his sound pulls from Black American music: jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and electronic. He grew up in San Diego immersed in jazz through his father, studied jazz piano at UCLA, and discovered beats at shows like Low End Theory. His debut, Kickinit Alone (2017, Leaving Records), led to him signing with Stones Throw, where he released Happysad (2018) and When There's Love Around (2021). His new full-length, It's Ok, B U, is out now.
Beyond his own records, he's recorded with Kaytranada, Sir, and Terrace Martin, and produced for Anderson .Paak on the Grammy-winning album Ventura. That background—jazz piano meeting hip-hop beats—is exactly what he brings to the stage. With Shibo on the bill, the night leans into that jazz and R&B territory.
