Weekly ice sculpting sessions on Saturdays during Winterfest, with carvers Chan Kitburi and James Royal creating original sculptures in front of the crowd.
Chan Kitburi and James Royal are taking over the Mural Amphitheatre at Seattle Center for the Ice Sculpting series, which kicks off on Saturday, November 27. It's one of the Saturday traditions of Winterfest, Seattle Center's seasonal celebration presented by Symetra, and it runs every Saturday through December 31. Each session brings the two carvers to the amphitheater to create original sculptures from ice right in front of the crowd, so you get to watch the work happen in real time rather than just seeing the finished pieces.
Winterfest itself spans five weeks, and the ice sculpting is just one part of what's going on. There's a European-inspired outdoor Christmas market at the Fisher Pavilion and South Fountain Lawn, and inside the Armory Food & Event Hall is the Winter Train & Village, an annual tradition that's been on display for 50 years. The Armory Stage also hosts entertainment on the weekends, so if you're heading in for the sculpting, there's plenty to do around the grounds before or after.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Seattle and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Because the series runs every Saturday from November 27 through December 31, you've got multiple chances to catch it. Each session starts at 12 PM at the Mural Amphitheatre, which is part of the Seattle Center campus at 305 Harrison St. Admission is free, so you can just drop by on a Saturday afternoon and watch Kitburi and Royal work their way through the ice.
