A production of Shakespeare's Hamlet by Union Arts Center, exploring themes of truth, madness, and revenge, with content advisories for violence and suicide.
Union Arts Center is bringing Hamlet to the Allen Theatre at 700 Union Street in Seattle, running from September 19 through October 11, 2026. Opening night is Thursday, September 24, and there's a possible extension through October 18.
The production is part of the center's 2026/27 season, which they've billed as "four centuries of theatre" in a single season. The company describes itself as the voice of contemporary theatre in the Pacific Northwest, and Hamlet is one of five shows they're staging this year. The season as a whole is built around looking beneath the surface, where the truth is "messier, funnier, stranger and more human than expected."
This particular staging leans into the play's central tensions: a father dead, a mother moved on, and a son who can feel the lies closing in around him. It follows Hamlet as he digs beneath the surface while it grows harder to tell friend from enemy, sanity from madness, justice from revenge. It's a long one—about two hours and 45 minutes with a 15-minute intermission—so you'll want to clear your evening for it. A few content advisories to keep in mind: there are scenes of violence and depictions of suicide, and the production uses stage haze and fog.
